METHOD AND APPARATOUS FOR CLEANING AND COOLING OF WASTE GASES

Cooling and cleaning flue gases from a waste incineration plant takes place with sorption of SO2 and HCl by a solid medium, e.g. by reaction with a calcium or magnesium containing mineral. The novel process has two optimised stages for removal of these gases. In the first, they fluidise a recirculated bed (6), contacting the medium at over 600 deg C. Some of the solids abstracted form the flue gases, and the medium itself, are separated from the stream and re-cycled. Flue gases continue to the second stage (2a) to contact medium at temperatures below 600 deg C. Also claimed is the plant to carry out the process with the additional feature that the walls of the first fluidised bed reactor are constructed for heat exchange.
