Procedure for determining contour of 3-dimensional surface

A procedure for determining the contour of the outer surface of a three-dimensional object is based on the projection of a series of strip-patterns indexed by Gray code and for each pixel element of the images so produced a succession of Gray code intensities is obtained. A complementary series of intensities is established by projecting a further sequence of strip-patterns which incorporate a phase shift and the two series collectively identified by reference number enable the absolute phase value to be determined by signal processing and a suitable computer algorithm.
