The bottle stopper is attached to a wire mounting on the neck of the bottle and is held in the sealing position by the wire mounting. The stopper has a shaped plug (2) with a groove (11) to hold the ring seal (13). The seal is bonded into the groove for a secure seal and without voids to trap liquid. The sealing ring is welded to the stopper or is sealed to it using a bonder. The stopper can be made of plastics for cost reduction and for an effective bond with the seal. A hole (5) through the stopper provides a grip for the wire mounting.
