Sealed sintered body

The sealed sintered body comprises: (a) up to 45-99.5 wt.% silicon carbide (SiC) as crystalline 1st phase in the sintered body; and (b) up to 0.5-55 wt.% sintered auxiliary agent, of which 0.5-30 wt.% are chosen from conversion products of aluminium oxide (Al2O3) with yttrium oxide (Y2O3), mixtures of nitrogen-containing aluminium compounds with conversion products of Al2O3 with Y2O3, mixtures of a rare earth oxide with nitrogen-containing aluminium compounds, and up to 0-25 wt.% chosen from nitridic silicon compounds, the sintered auxiliary agents being present as 2nd and optionally further phases in the sintered body. The 2nd and optionally further phases are amorphous either to more than 10% or on the boundary surface to the 1st phase to a width of /-5?A. The polished surface of the sintered body contains no pores with a diameter of >1 mu m. Also claimed is the production of the sintered body.
