An electrical drive system for the simultaneous or sequential working of several drive motors on a common mechanical machine element, and in which each drive motor is assigned an inverter power unit which is operated from central control- and drive- electronics. One motor group is specifically fed from one inverter power unit, and for all the inverter power units or for one group of the inverter power units, a central regulating and control unit is made available.
