The seat is adjustable over a pair of rails (12,14) and has an adjustable backrest. A locking member (16) engages in the locked state in the recess (20) of an entrainment part (12). In the locked state with relative movement of the two rails the locking member entrains the entrainment part against the holding action of a holding part (28) which fixes the entrainment part in position in the unlocked state of the locking part. The rails of each pair are formed from a top rail connected to the seat and guided movable along a fixed lower rail (14). The locking member is formed from an engagement pawl (18) swivel connected to the top rail.
