The invention concerns an expandable stent (vessel support) comprising a substantially cylindrical and tubular basic body which can be introduced into a blood vessel lumen or some other tubular passage in the body, and is designed to be secured in this lumen, by means of plastic deformation owing to radial expansion to a larger diameter, and remain permanently therein. The basic body is formed by material strands (1-8) which run substantially in the longitudinal direction and do not cross over one another, adjacent material strands (1-8) in each case being interconnected at given locations.
