The device supplies a first selected voltage V S1 to a scanning line in a charge mode and a second selected voltage V S2 having a polarity opposite to that of a precharge voltage -V PRE to the scanning line after supplying the precharge voltage -V PRE having a polarity opposite to that of the first selected voltage V S1 to the scanning line in a discharge mode. In addition, the device supplies a pulse width-modulated data voltage to a data line. As one of the pulse widths (44 or 46) of first and second write pulses (44 and 46) which give the same gradation increases, the pulse width of the other pulse (46 or 44) decreases and, at the same time, the decreasing rate of the pulse width of the pulse (46 or 44) becomes smaller in accordance with the increase in another pulse width. The DC component of the data voltage in 1H period is made nearly zero without relying upon the gradation.</p>
