A RAISABLE/LOWERABLE VEHICLE BED FOR CARRYING LOADS

A vehicle including a cabin (11) which is attached to a load carrying assembly (13). The assembly (13) includes a "U-shaped" frame (14) which supports a load receiving bed (17) movable between a raised transport position and a lowered position adjacent a surface upon which the vehicle rests. A tailgate (19) is pivotally attached to the bed (17) with catches extending between the tailgate and arms which when engaged inhibit relative movement between the arms. The forward portion of the bed (17) is provided with a pin (30) which is engaged by a catch member (31) to aid in retaining the bed (17) in the raised position. Springs (39) are maintained in a compressed condition extending between the bed (17) and the arms while latch members (28) engage pins (31) to also aid in retaining the bed (17) in the raised position.
