A device has an input surface for receiving energy emitted from an energy source in a first mode. A mode order converter converts energy from a first mode to a second mode. The wave guide of the device has an input end part which is adjacent to the input surface and receives energy in the first mode. The wave guide has an output end part which is adjacent to a media-facing surface and transmits energy in the second mode. The output end part has an oblique angle to a cross-track line at the intersection of a substrate-parallel plane with the media-facing surface. So, coupling efficiency can be improved. |
