SUBSTITUTED LIQUID CRYSTALLINE POLYMERS AND THEIR USE AS COMPATIBILIZERS IN BLENDS OF LCP'S AND OTHER POLYMERS

The present invention relates to substituted liquid crystalline polymers and their use as compatibilizers in blends of LCP's and a matrix polymer. According to the invention, the substituted LCP is compatible with the matrix polymer and with the LCP and it comprises thermotropic mainchain LCP, which is monosubstituted with a thioalkyl or a thioalkylaryl, in particular with thiododecyl, thiohexadecyl and/or thiocresyl. In blends of an LCP and a polyolefin and/or another isotropic polymer, the substituted LCP forms a macrosoap with the LCP and the polyolefin improving the adhesion to other blending components like fillers and fibres.
