A device for ascertaining the switch position of electrical switchgear in which the position and/or the movement status of a movable switch-contact (4) is determined by means of the interaction of a reflecting element (15) associated with the switchgear kinematics, with a light beam (13). The reflecting element (15) is designed as at least one reflection face (10,11,12) generated by embossing the surface of a metallic component (4) of the switchgear, and more specifically as a combination of at least two reflection faces (10,11,12) arranged approximately at right-angles to one another.
