Spherical feeler profile for 3=D coordinate measuring change

A spherical feeler profile (17) for a 3-dimensional co-ordinate measuring gauge is mounted on a stem (16) which moves up and down the Z-axis in a vertical guide (15) attached to a gantry formed by the uprights (12a, 12b) and cross-member (13). The guide (15) slides along the X-axis and the gantry as a whole (12a, 12b, 13) moves along the Y-axis within a guideslot (14) in the surface plate (11) which is supported on a vibration-free base (11). All feeler (17) contacts with the workpiece (19) are electrically signalled to the evaluation unit (2) for co-ordinate recording/storage and operator accuracy is assisted by a circumferential reference line on the sphere whose plane is normal to the stem (16) axis.
