The wide angle lens includes a front lens group (10) with negative refraction and a rear lens group (20) with positive refraction. The lens groups are arranged in the sequence seen from the object side. The front lens group is composed of a first negative meniscus lens element (11) with a convex surface area facing the object side. A second lens element (12) with at least one non-spherical surface area is also included in the front lens group. The non-spherical second lens element is formed as a biconcave lens in the vicinity of the optics axis. In the edge area the lens element is formed as a negative meniscus lens with a convex surface area arranged towards the object side.
