A method and an apparatus for recovering waste toner in printing apparatus of the type named "toner jet" printing apparatus, and in which a dry colour powder, generally named "toner" is, by a direct method, transferred from a rotating toner feeder roll (1) having a predetermined, relatively low positive voltage (e.g. + 50 V), through electrically openable and closable toner feeder bores (8) of a fixed toner feeder matrix (3) in the form of a flexible printing circuit (9) and down to the object (5) to be printed, for instance a paper, which is conveyed above a support roll (4) having a predetermined, relatively high voltage, and in which the colour powder that has deposited on the paper (5) is finally fixed to the paper by means of a heater apparatus (12), and in which the toner feeder matrix (3), and the bottom surface thereof, is formed with a laminator layer (14) of an electrically conducting but un-magnetic material, and in which the apparatus comprises a means (16) for returning, after each page that has been printed, toner that has collected on the bottom surface of the matrix (3) in that the voltage and/or the polarity of the toner feeder roll (1), the laminator layer (14) and the support roll (4) is/are varied several times with a given frequency.
