Glucosamine sulphate preparation in stable crystalline form

Production of a therapeutically active, crystalline form of glucosamine sulphate, stable at ambient temperature and humidity and of formula (I), comprises: (a) reacting (i) glucosamine hydrochloride and (ii) a sulphate of sodium, potassium, calcium or magnesium, in a stoichiometric ratio as defined in the formula (I), in an aqueous solvent; and(b) precipitating the stable crystalline form by addition of a liquid, water-miscible precipitating agent (II). M = Na, K, Ca or Mg; one of x, y = 1 and the other = 2. (I) produced by the above process is also claimed.
