The work chambers are connectable to one another hydraulically via damping valves arranged in the piston. The piston is guided in relation to the work chambers by a seal ring sealing on the bore (2) of the cylinder (1). A guide and support surface (12) is connected to the piston connecting rod (6) at an axial spacing from the piston sealing ring (4). It works in conjunction with the bore of the cylinder. The guide and support surface is formed by a cylindrical extension (15) of a pot-shaped support part (13) and is favourable for sliding purposes.
