Manufacturing thin-walled glass mouldings with a narrow projecting end, especially tree decorations, from a vertically supplied glass tube involves: (a) heating the rotating tube (2) to the working temperature and drawing out an auxiliary spike; (b) heating the rotating tube, while the tube is held between upper and lower chucks (3, 7), and drawing to form a complete spike with a portion to be blow moulded; (c) blow moulding the portion in several blowing moulds (5) of a mould closure unit (6) by means of a blowing air supply (1) to form a moulded portion of any desired contour, while simultaneously vertically drawing or upsetting by driving the lower chuck (7) using a linear drive unit; and (d) thermally cutting the complete spike into a lower manipulating spike with the moulding and an upper auxiliary spike with a portion to be blow moulded. Also claimed is an apparatus for carrying out the above process.
