Hoist with lateral reach e.g. for lifting cooking vessel for catering

The hoist (10) comprises a boom (18) which is supported on a spherical bearing (16) on a support flange near the top of a vertical support column (11). The height and angle of the boom is controlled by a cable (23) between the top of the boom and the top of the vertical column. A winch (20) slung under the bottom end of the boom lifts the load via a pulley (22) at the top of the boom. The lateral reach of the hoist is obtained by simply pressing the boom to either side, with the load lifted clear of the ground. The lateral movement can be combined with winch operation.
