This new method is used for the clean separation of hot extruded hollow profiles. They are cut directly into useful lengths, using an energetic jet or beam (32) which follows the extrusion. Such a cutter comprises a laser beam or high pressure water jet. The novel feature is a filling of light structural material (24) which is injected inside (22) the profile (20). This is injected at least at the anticipated points of separation (26). Also claimed is an extrusion unit generally as described, with a press plunger (6) sliding in a chamber (2), compressing the contained material (4) to form the extruded hollow profile (20). This is formed by the matrix (8) at the head of the chamber.
