Rack-and-pinion transmission mechanism

The coupling (5) can be formed by a coupling (5) between pinion (2) and rack (4), and which is movable at right angles to the lengthwise axis of the rack. The two can be pre-loaded against each other at right angles to the axis of rotation of the pinion and the lengthwise axis of the rack. The latter can slide in a bearing housing spring-loaded against the pinion. The spring can be a tension spring (7) passed round the pinion spindle (3). There can be two racks on opposite sides of the pinion, meshing with it at diametrally-opposite points.
