A method for alleviating the loss of ATM cells when employing the weighted fair queing scheduling method wherein the ATM cells are subjected to a peek bit rate limitation in a further stage of the method, and wherein such limitation is of the time interval of two read counters that sample the memory elements of a calendar in a cyclical time grid.
