Motion compensated video signal processing

The motion compensated video signal processing apparatus derives a set of possible motion vectors (including zero motion) to represent pixel motion between a pair of input images of an input video signal. A motion vector is selected for interpolation of an output pixel by determining the motion vector which gives the highest correlation value between test blocks of the input image pointed to by the vector. Each correlation value can be weighted so that the degree of correlation indicated by the zero motion vector is increased with respect to the correlation values of the other vectors or can be weighted according to the amount of detail present in the input test blocks. A further embodiment allows image enhancement of the test block before determining the correlation values.
