<p>The procedure consists of fitting a prepared root canal (3a) with a tubular reinforcing element (4) made from coiled wire with spirals wound in two directions so they intersect. The reinforcing element is fixed in the natural tooth root with the aid of a self-hardening material (5a), e.g. PMMA or biphenol diglycidyl methacrylate resin, leaving its upper end projecting from the root surface to act as a peg for fixing the artificial crown (7). The reinforcing element is made, for example, from stainless steel wire which can be strengthened with two or three lengthwise filaments fastened to the coils by a thermosetting plastics.</p> |
