A slip control system of a lock-up clutch of an automatic transmission comprising a torque converter, lock-up clutch, slip control device for controlling an engaging force of the lock-up clutch to establish a slip control in which a predetermined rotation speed difference is allowed between the input member and output member when a vehicle operating condition is in a predetermined slip control zone, transient control device for carrying out a transient control by setting a transient control factor to increase a change in the engaging force of the lock-up clutch for a transient condition when the vehicle operating condition is transferred from a non-slip control zone to the slip control zone, and the transient control factor being determined in accordance with a vehicle operating condition just before the vehicle operating condition falls into the slip control zone. The slip control system reduces a torque shock in a change between the non-slip control condition and the slip control condition and at the same time accomplishes a responsive slip control. |
