Blue organic electroluminescent devices

An organic electroluminescent (EL) device comprises an anode and a cathode and at least one organic luminescent medium containing a novel benzazole compound of formula (I): where n = integer 3-8; Z = O, NR or S; R, R' = hydrogen, 1-24C alkyl, e.g. propyl, tertiary-butyl or heptyl, 5-20C aryl or hetero-atom substituted aryl, e.g. phenyl, naphthyl, furyl, thienyl, pyridyl or quinolinyl; halo, e.g. chloro or fluoro; or atoms necessary to complete a fused aromatic ring; and B = linkage unit consisting of optionally substituted alkyl or aryl which conjugately or non-conjugately connects the multiple benzazoles together.
