An optical transmitter comprising a first unit (8) for generating an optical signal having a bandwidth given by a main signal, a second unit (10) for modulating the optical signal according to a control signal to extend the bandwidth of the optical signal, a third unit (12) for extracting backward light, including stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) light generated in an optical fiber transmission line (6), and a fourth unit (14) for performing feedback control so that the power of the SBS light is maintained at a substantially constant level. It is thus possible to obtain good transmission characteristics of a main signal and allow the control of SBS. |
