<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize the effect onto a reproduced image due to a correction disable error in a block coding system and to facilitate the processing at a receiver side. SOLUTION: One image pattern is divided into a plurality of numbers for each area corresponding to n-sets (n is an integer being 2 or over) of luminance blocks being the unit of block coding of a luminance signal and corresponding to m-sets (m is an integer less than n) of chrominance blocks being the unit of block coding of a chrominance signal. Block coding circuits 16, 18, 20 apply block coding to the luminance signal and the chrominance signal in the unit of the luminance blocks and the chrominance blocks. A parity addition circuit 24 adds an error correction parity in the unit of the block-coded luminance signal and the block-coded chrominance signal required to decode the n-sets of the luminance blocks of the luminance signals and the m-sets of the chrominance blocks of the chrominance signals in each division area. A color image signal added with the parity is outputted.</p> |
