<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare the subject freshness retaining agent having excellent effects on plants, especially vegetables and fruits after harvesting or cut flowers by including a specific compound therein. SOLUTION: This freshness retaining agent for plants comprises a compound represented by formula I (R<1> is a group represented by formula II or III; R<2> and R<3> are each H, hydroxy, an alkoxy, etc.; X<2> and Xu4 are each an alkyl, hydroxy, an alkanoyloxy, etc.; X<2> is CH,, NH, O or S; X<3> , X<5> , X<6> and X<7> are each CH or N) or a salt thereof as an active ingredient. Formycin A, formycin B, tubercidin and cordycepin are cited as the compound represented by formula I. The compound is used at a treating concentration within the range of preferably 0.0003-0.03%. The freshness retaining agent is capable of preventing a phenomenon such as wilting, flower abscission, hanging of a neck, excessive opening of petals and prolonging the number of days for keeping flowers for potted flowers or cut flowers by including the compound represented by formula I therein. Furthermore, the agent is capable of preventing maturation or aging such as coloring, fading, browning or softening for leaf, root and fruit vegetables, fruit trees, mushrooms, etc.</p> |
