PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a catalyst in which a catalyst carrier has high compressive strength, a carried component has high activity per unit weight of ruthenium, and the activity can be kept over a long time by controlling the specific surface of an alumina carrier ruthenium catalyst within a given range. SOLUTION: In an alumina carrier ruthenium catalyst in which at least a ruthenium component is carried by porous α-alumina, the specific surface area rs made 8-50m<2> /g. The ratro of specifrc surface between the catalyst and the α-alumina is made 3-50. The catalyst has porous structure in which at least one peak in pore distribution exists in a range of 5-1000 angstrom. Since specified α-alumina is used in the catalyst, the catalyst has high compressive strength, so that the catalyst is not broken in a modification apparatus to prevent clogging. Since the metal component is carried efficiently, the catalyst has high activity, good heat resistance, and a long life. |
