PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an artificial biomaterial capable of being bound with bone tissue at an early stage and in a stable state. SOLUTION: A coated layer comprising silica gel and/or silica is formed on a base material, and R-O-Si compounds (R is alkali metal element or alkaline earth metal element) are formed on the surface of the coated layer, Such biomaterial can be manufactured by applying silica gel to the base material, soaking the same in a solution containing alkali metal ion and/or alkaline earth metal ion, thereafter, drying and burning the same. After the artificial biomaterial is laid on a living body, the R-O-Si compounds formed on the surface of the coated layer react with body fluid, the alkali metal ion or alkaline earth metal ion is eluted, and hydronium ion (H3 O<+> ) is taken in from the body fluid. As a result, pH in the body fluid near the material rises, the degree of supersaturating with respect to apatite rises and an environment where the apatite is easily deposited is given. |
