PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new protein detectable by ELISA using antihuman apoAI anti-serum, having a specific amino acid sequence and useful for prevention, treatment, etc., of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease and its variant. SOLUTION: This human apolipoprotein AI is a new protein detectable by ELISA (enzyme imunoassay) using antihuman apoAI antiserum and represented by the formula Met-X-Y [X is a carrier peptide sequence having a sequence derived from N-ended amino acid within initial 15 or human apoAI pro sequence; Y is a human apoAI sequence or a sequence (apoAI-Ml) in which Arg at 173th position in human apoAI sequence is replaced with Cys or a sequence (apoAI-T6/ Ml) in which Ser at 6 position is replaced with Thr] and the apoliprotein AI has activity lowering level of plasma cholesterol and/or triglyceride and is useful for prevention, treatment, etc., of atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, etc.
