<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a carrier for a microorganism and a carrier for entrapping immobilization of a microorganism which are excellent in resistance to abrasion, weather or light and microbial degradation, fluidity and biocompatibility, particularly useful as a carrier for fluidized bed by using a porous body of polyvinyl acetal as a carrier for a microorganism. SOLUTION: A porous body of polyvinyl acetal, particularly a porous sponge of polyvinyl formal, is used as a carrier for a microorganism. Since its specific gravity can be brought close to 1.0-1.1, it can well develop the suitable fluidity as porous particles for fluidized bed. These particles preferably have particle sizes of 1-20mm in the moisturized state and include continuous holes with a porosity of 50-98% thereby holding microorganism in high concentration.</p> |
