PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a catalyst for purifying an exhaust gas which simultaneously removes carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbon (HC) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) as harmful components contained in an exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine on an automobile. SOLUTION: This catalyst for purifying an exhaust gas has a monolithic structure covered with a catalytic active component containing (a) palladium, alkali earth metal oxide, (b) zirconium oxide carrying lathanum and cerium and (c) refractory inorganic oxide. In addition, it is preferable that the zirconium oxide carrying (b) lathanum and cerium has the weight ratio of cerium to zirconium (weight converted in terms of oxide) of (150:100)-(10:100). |
