The invention relates to a plant for the treatment of liquid manure in which raw liquid manure is converted into a solid manure concentrate, pure water, a soil- improving agent and a combustible gas for energy production. The treatment is based on the following operations. 1) The separation of the raw liquid manure into a fibrous fraction and a liquid manure fraction. 2) The latter undergoes anaerobic decomposition of its organic constituents, which is followed by ultrafiltration. 3) The permeate from the ultrafiltered liquid is then treated in a degassing device, where the ammonia and carbon dioxide present in the permeate are distilled off. This gives two fractions. One is a distillate consisting of an ammonia solution and a carbon dioxide solution, and the other is a residue consisting of the rest of the ultrafiltration permeate. 4) The residue is finally treated by reverse osmosis in a device where a concentration process takes place. This concentrate contains the solid manure constituents originally present in the liquid manure. The purified water left behind meets the WHO requirements for drinking water. <IMAGE>
