FIELD: methods of production of tape from magnetic steel. SUBSTANCE: method involves production of tape from magnetic steel with oriented grains and thickness of less than 5 mm, containing more than 2 wt.-% of silicon, less than 0.1 wt.-% of carbon and elements-inhibitors of secondary recrystallization in corresponding amount, and iron, the balance; produced by continuous casting on cylinder or between two cylinders. Grains GOSS are produced in ingot mold as a result of contact of molten metal with cylinders having temperature of their surface below 400 C. Crystalline structure is formed containing grains with orientation {110} <001> in surface crust, i.e. on the surface of hardening zone by sharp cooling of steel at contact with cylinder or cylinders whose temperature of its (their) surfaces is below 400 C.
