PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cadmium negative electrode for an alkaline storage battery in which the utilization factor of an active material is enhanced by adding the specified amount each of indium and yttrium to the active material, comprising a mixture of a cadmium compound and metallic cadmium. SOLUTION: In a cadmium negative electrode for an alkaline storage battery containing cadmium oxide, metallic cadmium, or a mixture of them as an active material, indium, indium oxide, or a mixture of them is added 30-1000ppm calculate with respect to indium is added to the active material, and further yttrium, yttrium oxider, or a mixture of them is added 0.3-2.5wt.% calculated in terms of yttrium to the active material. The cadmium negative electrode for the alkaline storage battery in which the drop in discharge capacity attendant on the progress of charge/discharge cycles and the generation of hydrogen gas from the negative electrode in the final stage of charge are retarded is obtained. |
