<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent splashing of a paper powder or resin dust from deckle edges of a web in a process of applying an emulsion for a printing paper on a laminated photographic printing paper by pressing at specified linear pressure on the edges of double-side laminated photographic printing paper with specified water content of the raw paper between metal rollers having specified surface temp. SOLUTION: An edge sealing metal roller 1 having a large diameter part 4 on both ends while providing a step having difference the same as about the thickness of a laminated paper, and a cylindrical backup metal roller 2 are used. Each of metal rollers 1, 2 consists of a high-carbon bearing steel or chilled iron having >85 finish hardness Hs which is suitable for ultrahigh pressure calendering. The diameter of each metal rollers 1, 2 having mirror- finished surface is determined based on the width of the laminated paper 3 and the nipping pressure for the edge sealing treatment. A double-side laminated paper for a photographic printing paper having 1.8 to 10% water content of the raw paper is subjected to edge sealing between the metal rollers 1, 2 at 15 to 140 deg.C surface temp. under 300 to 3000kgf/cm<2> linear pressure.</p> |
