A device for the reception and lateral displacement of planks 3 which are fed out from an edge saw 1, which device comprises a movable chain 6, which supports the planks and advances them in the direction of the saw, and pressure rollers 9, which press the planks against the chain. In order to halt the movement of the planks, the device is provided with raisable and lowerable members 10, which are arranged to lift the planks up out of the reach of the said chain.
