The device includes an elastic coupling (5) which links the shaft of an electrical motor to an endless screw (3). Position coding protrusions(8) are provided on the screw and on a ring (10) fixed on the shaft. The relative displacement of the protrusions is monitored by position detectors (6). Signal generated by the detectors is analysed by an electronic module (7) which determines the torque.
