PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a still image with a high image quality by keeping compatibility with existing standards of a digital video tape recorder without the use of an image memory of a large capacity. SOLUTION: Image data with number of pixels 720×480 are obtained respectively from CCDs 20, 40, and 60 and inputted to an image data conversion circuit 15. From the CCDs 20, 40, and 60, image data by two frames composed of 1st greed image data, 2nd green image data and red and blue image data of odd and even number rows are obtained and given to the image data conversion circuit 15. The CCDs 20, 40, and 60 and the image data conversion circuit 15 are controlled so as to record the red(R), green(G) and blue(B) image data onto a magnetic tape over 1st to 4th fields.
