PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the cost by using a drive source in common to a book read section and an automatic original carrier section being a means to read an original. SOLUTION: The reading by an automatic original carrying section is conducted by activating a running body drive clutch 34, energizing a drive motor 30 and moving a running body 4 with a running body timing belt 33', the running body drive clutch 34 and a synchromesh wire 5. The running body 4 is stopped at an original read position between 1st and 2nd carrier rollers 8, 9. The original carrier clutch 31, carrying an original, is activated, the drive motor 30 is driven, and the original is carried with a feed roller 7 and the 1st and 2nd carrier rollers 8, 9 via an original carrying timing belt 33 to read image data. Furthermore, in the case of reading by a book read section, the running body drive clutch 34 is energized, the drive motor 30 is driven and the running body 4 is moved similarly to the case with the automatic original carrying section. Image data of the original on a contact glass are read. |
