PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape for recording computer data which suits to a linear track system using a fixed head like DLT system in which abrasion of a magnetic head is little even when repeatedly running at a high speed, and which is high in output and high in stability. SOLUTION: The magnetic tape has a non-magnetic layer of a thickness of 0.5-3.0μm and a magnetic layer of a thickness of 0.1-0.4μm at one side of a non-magnetic supporting body of a thickness of 3.0-6.5μm sequentially in this order, and a back coat layer at the other side. Both the non-magnetic layer and the magnetic layer contain abrasives. The amount of the abrasives projecting at a surface of the magnetic layer is in the range of 1-8/100μm<2> . A surface roughness Ra of the magnetic layer according to 3D-MIRAU method is in a range of 2-6nm. Moreover, the ratio of thickness of the tape to breadth is 3.5×10<-4> -7.5×10<-4> . The tape has 1/2 inch breadth. The magnetic tape is combined with a fixed magnetic head thereby to record, reproduce data.
