PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an acceleration sensor which can detect the magnitude or the direction of acceleration. SOLUTION: A ball 2 is mounted on the tapered bottom face 1b of a housing and a light emitting element 3 and a light receiving unit 4 are disposed, respectively, above and below the ball 2. The unit 4 is arranged with four light receiving elements 5A-5D around the optical axis 10. When the ball 2 is subjected to acceleration and shifted laterally, a transmitted light spot is shifted on the ball 2 to cause variation in the output from the light receiving elements 5A-5D and the acceleration is detected. |
