摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain an object compression rate as entire image data by analyzing an image configuration of the entire image data and setting a compression parameter for each of a plurality of compression systems based on the analysis result. SOLUTION: Image data received from an image input device 1 are once sent to an image analysis buffer 3 of an image analysis circuit 2. An image structure analysis circuit 4 references data in the buffer 3 to analyze a structure included in the image. An optimum compression parameter calculation circuit 5 decides a parameter so that a compression rate of the entire image is below an object compression rate. After the end of the image analysis processing as above, the input image is divided in the unit of blocks by a raster block conversion circuit 6, and a compression mode changeover circuit 7 selects the compression system based on threshold level information obtained from the circuit 5. A code data synthesis circuit 8 adds a tag signal denoting a selected compression circuit to a prior part of the code data.</p>
