摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust the image contrast and luminance in response to the intensity distribution of an entire image pickup range without increasing the processing capability by obtaining the contrast and the luminance adjustment value based on a picture element value corresponding to a sample picture element. SOLUTION: An output of a photodetector 402 is fed to a sampling processing section 211 and a contrast adjustment section 416 via an A/D converter 411. An output of the adjustment section 416 is fed to a CRT display device 405 via a luminance value adjustment section 418 and a signal conversion section 419. On the other hand, the processing section 211 extracts a sample picture element to activate a mean value calculation section 413 and a difference calculation section 414 corresponding to the corresponding picture element value. In this case, the processing section 211 decides a sampling density in advance based on a processing range and each picture element number of one frame and extracts the sample picture element based on the density, then an adjustment coefficient and a luminance adjustment value on which information of the entire image pickup range is reflected are obtained and all object images are displayed with a proper contrast and a proper luminance regardless of the objects in the image pickup range.
