PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid high speed movement in a different direction from focusing and disable focusing by inhibiting the focusing when a focus lens is within a prescribed area and an AF evaluation value is a prescribed value or below. SOLUTION: A camera control microcomputer 118 receives an AF evaluation value outputted from an AF evaluation value processing circuit 116 that extracts a focus detection high frequency component from an output of a CCD 106 and inches a focus lens 105 through a focus compensation lens motor 114. Then the microcomputer 118 discriminates whether or not a focusing state is in existence and in which direction the focusing direction is in an a focal state, controls the drive of the lens 105 in the discriminated direction so as to obtain a focal position. On the other hand, the microcomputer 118 stops the direction discrimination and the focusing by using the inching motion when the evaluation value is a prescribed level or below. Thus, it is prevented that the lens 105 is unexpectedly driven in a different direction from providing a focal state and focusing is disable of an object whose evaluation value is a prescribed level or below. |
