PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operability of the receiver without attaching a remote control or newly purchasing it by inputting characters by using an infrared remote control of television, etc., when generating an address book, etc. SOLUTION: The read-only memory 105 of the receiver is stored with the remote control signal formats of television of respective manufacturers and when a television manufacturer's name is selected first through an operation part 101, its information is written in a rewritable memory 106. When the receiver is placed in address book input mode through the operation part 101, it automatically becomes possible to input characters through the remote control 10 of television. A signal sent with a button of the remote control 107 pressed is received by the infrared interface 102, and processed by a control part 103 to display corresponding characters at, for example, a display part 104. Character input is carried out by using channel buttons of television. Number/Japanese syllabary switching is done with a power button and at the time of Japanese syllabary input, characters change each time a channel button is pressed. A character is decided with a sound volume button. |
