The floor covering element, is preferably for a stair tread. This is covered by and joined to a material of mineral origin, which is encapsulated and bonded by an adhesive binder. Preferably, the body is wood, its height and width in the uncoated state being reduced by approximately the dimensions of the coating to be applied. A surface-adherent recess in the main load bearing area, accords with the depth and strength of the applied coating. The height is pre-adjusted with regard to the dimensions and surface adherent expansion of the coating.
