A sound-insulating assembly (7) is provided, which can be made by foam-backing a carpet (1) in such a way that a cell-less or low-cell consolidated layer (3) is formed directly on the carpet (1) and a cellular flexible soft-foam layer (5) is formed adjacently thereto, this being performed in one operation. For this purpose, structured materials, such as non-woven mat and/or chopped foams, are provided on the rear of the carpet (1), or a foam-impervious film covering (2) thereupon. Foaming is then carried out into the said structured materials to form the consolidated layer.
